Debbie “The Rat Lady” and Limpet

The Snuggle Scarf

This is Debbie “The Rat Lady’s” new rat pouch invention for keeping your rats close to you.  Wear this fabric “donut” around your neck to give your rats a cozy place to hide and snuggle while helping to protect your neck and shoulders from scratches. The scarf can hang down in front or back to form a rat pouch and can fit 3 or more rats (depending on their size) at the same time.  The lower elastic fits snugly around the neck (it can be adjusted using basic sewing skills) to help prevent your rat from climbing inside your other clothing.  The elastic around the top is looser and allows your rat to look out or even come out to stand on your shoulder.  The Snuggle Scarf is the ultimate rat pouch and bonding pouch because your rat can either be cozy and hide, or come out and be social.  One size fits most, but I do have a few small ones to fit small children.  Contact me for more info.

The winter version is made of soft fleece.  We buy fleece on sale to keep the price down, so color choices will vary.  Current solid color choices for the winter snuggle scarves: royal blue, purple, forest green, wine, and dark grey.  See below for print choices.

Price—$10 (California residents add 73 cents tax)

Current Print Designs for winter fleece:  light blue with clouds (see picture above right), leopard design, forest green camouflage, and a limited number of a patriotic design with large (about 3” X 6”) red, white and blue rectangles and large white stars on the blue.

The cooler summer version of the snuggle scarf is made from lightweight nylon jersey mesh fabric like what they make football jerseys from.  Current color choices for the summer version are: red, royal blue, forest green, purple, black, and a subtle variegated pink (from light to medium pink).  The black fabric is unique because one side is fuzzy, so we are sewing the snuggles with the fuzz inside, for the rats, and the slick side outside for the person.

Price—$10  (California residents add 73 cents tax)

Please specify winter or summer version, and color choice.

Shipping for winter version—to the U.S. $2, to Canada US$2.50, to other countries $5

Shipping for summer version—to the U.S. $1.50, to Canada US$2, other countries $4

FoodHopper

This hanging dispenser is the best way to serve rat blocks.  It keeps the blocks up off the floor and clean until your rats are hungry.  Then your rats can either take bites of the blocks in the hopper, or work them out one by one.  You do need to monitor the hopper and shake it occasionally to make sure the blocks fall to the bottom as they sometimes get stuck. Comes in blue or gray. About 6 ½ inches X 2 ½ inches.

Price—$6.50 (CA residents add $.47 tax)

Rat Jewelry

These adorable double-sided rat charms come in antique silver and antique gold and are about ¾ inch tall.

My bracelets are created from beads of man-made hematite, an iron-containing stone. The silver, gold, rainbow, and pearl finishes are an applied coating that may eventually tarnish or wear off, and the speed of this occurring can be related to individual skin chemistry. It is best to remove your magnetic jewelry before bathing or showering. The gold, silver, and rainbow beads have single-strength magnetic power and the pearl and hematite beads have double-strength magnetic power.  For more on the therapeutic benefits of magnetic jewelry, see below.

Prices for bracelets:

Silver and/or gold: $12  (In CA add $.87 tax)

Rainbow: $12  (In CA add $.87 tax)

Hematite or hematite combo: $14  (In CA add $1.02 tax)

Pearl or pearl combo: $17  (In CA add $1.23 tax)

Effects of Magnets on Pain

I started wearing a magnetic bracelet in 2008 because I was experiencing chronic pain in my hands. I wore the bracelet on my left wrist during the day and on my right wrist during the night. Over a few weeks, the pain got better until I stopped having regular pain in my left hand. I continue to wear a magnetic bracelet on my right wrist day and night, which helps keep the pain under control. Occasionally, I have pain in my left hand, but switching the bracelet to my left wrist for a few hours makes it go away.

So far, people who have purchased magnetic bracelets or anklets from me have reported improvement of pain in their hands, wrists, feet, and one customer has even had a significant decrease of pain in her shoulder!  You generally need to wear a bracelet or anklet for at least 12 hours a day for a few days before you will start to feel results.

How Magnets Work on the Body

From an article by Dr. William Pawluk, MD, MSc. at http://www.magneticbraceletsetc.com/PositiveBenefitsofBioMagnetics.htm

Every cell and atom of the body is a small magnetic dynamo. The body’s magnet fields, however, are very tiny. The earth's field is 100,000 times (or more) stronger than the body’s! We are so dependent on the earth’s fields that astronauts in space for long periods require artificial magnetic fields to maintain health. Tissues exposed to magnets have enhanced magnetic signals afterward for some time. Magnets also act on the body in other ways:

  • Magnets increase blood flow. They attract red blood cells because they contain iron. I placed a round bull’s eye magnet on a nurse's knee bruise following a ski injury. The next morning she had a perfect bull’s eye pattern over her bruise!
  • They affect some chemical processes within and between cells. Researchers at Harvard found that salt water passes a membrane quicker with a magnetic field (increases osmosis).
  • They can affect nerve signals. High strength magnets can cause anesthesia, through a principle in physics called the Hall effect. Dr. Robert Becker (author of Body Electric) put salamanders to sleep before surgery with electromagnets more safely than anesthetics. Magnets can stop epileptic seizures. They are also used to study and map nerve structures deep in the brain, normally only accessible during brain surgery.
